Chloroquine phosphate, 250 mg twice daily, or hydroxychloroquine sulfate, 200 mg twice daily, was administered for a period of 6 to 21 months. Patients had regular clinical evaluation, determination of serum and cerebrospinal fluid angiotensin-converting enzyme level, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, chest radiography, lung function testing, and slit-lamp examination of the eyes.

Here are 10 things to keep in mind when using Plaquenil Take it on a regular schedule, meaning at the same time each day. Take Plaquenil EXACTLY as prescribed by your physician. Do not stop taking the medication without first speaking to your doctor. Taking Hydroxychloroquine with food and/or milk can help prevent stomach upset. PLAQUENIL is used concomitantly with other arrhythmogenic drugs. Mefloquine and other drugs known to lower the convulsive threshold PLAQUENIL can lower the convulsive threshold. Co-administration of PLAQUENIL with other antimalarials known to lower the convulsion threshold e.g. mefloquine may increase the risk of convulsions. I do not know if you take plaquenil or not, and I cannot say for sure it is the plaquenil, but I believe the plaquenil has helped with my peripheral neuropathy. I do not even know if it is supposed to help with it or not, but in the last six months since starting it, I have noticed a big improvement in many of my bothersome symptoms of ss.

Magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium was most helpful in supporting the diagnosis of sarcoidosis and monitoring the course of the disease. Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine either stabilized symptoms or controlled neurological symptoms in 10 of 12 patients. Cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities, including lymphocytosis, were seen in 3 patients.

What is Peripheral Neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is caused by damage to your peripheral nerves. Peripheral nerves are nerves that are not located in the brain or spinal cord. Chloroquine has long been used in the treatment or prevention of malaria from Plasmodium vivax, P. malariae, excluding the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, for it started to develop widespread resistance to it. Hydroxychloroquine MedlinePlus Drug Information Hydroxychloroquine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. For prevention of malaria in adults, two tablets are usually taken once a week on exactly the same day of each week. The first dose is taken 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an area where malaria is common, and then doses are continued for 8 weeks after exposure.

Started taking Plaquenil for Lupus and now I can't sleep. Plaquenil does not cause sleep disruption. I work with lupus patients and have never heard of that. We do get insomnia, but not from plaquenil. Predisone can do that big time especially if you take it in the evening. More than likely it is anxiety and your brain that are keeping you awake. Here are things to try 1. Develop a bed time routine.
