Mefloquine is an anti-malarial medication that can be used for both prevention and treatment of malaria. Up until September 2018, it was one of only three medications approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration TGA for malaria prevention and is currently used around the world. Mefloquine is an antimalarial agent which acts as a blood schizonticide. Mefloquine is active against the erythrocytic stages of Plasmodium species. However, the drug has no effect against the exoerythrocytic hepatic stages of the parasite. Mefloquine is effective against malaria parasites resistant to chloroquine. Mefloquine is a chiral molecule. Chloroquine is now reserved for P vivax, P malariae, or P ovale in this region. In Thailand, mefloquine was introduced as first-line treatment for falciparum malaria in November, 1984, but despite careful regulation of its use, significant resistance developed within 6 years.

Factors that affect local malaria transmission patterns can change rapidly and from year to year, such as local weather conditions, mosquito vector density, and prevalence of infection. None in the cities of Jakarta and Ubud, resort areas of Bali and Java, and Gili Islands and the Thousand Islands (Pulau Seribu).

Danger in taking Plaquenil and Prednisone if its not Lupus. There are other side effects but they are less prevailant. Plaquenil can cause problems with eyesight, blood issues, liver and kidney damage. Unfortunately, if you do have Lupus, prednisone is your best choice to knock out the symptoms quickly. It should be given in a higher dose initially and then tapered back.
